In July 1967, Quaid e Azam University (formerly known as Islamabad University) was founded by an act of the National Assembly and began offering PhD and MPhil programs in teaching and research. But eventually, it was decided to offer graduate, undergraduate, and now master’s programs.
The university admits a limited number of students from every part of the country because it is a federal public university, but it attracts a lot of foreign students because of its professors, programmes, and international reputation. In 1980, the Directorate of Sports was founded. The student body’s social life is greatly influenced by sports. With an emphasis on character development and personal values, these bring the students together.

QAU Central Workshop
The University’s Central Workshop is a crucial department for meeting the demands for furniture, glass, steel, refrigerator, and electrical repair and fabrication for the university’s offices, dormitories, and other departments.
Quaid e Azam University is the only university in Pakistan with such a workshop that manufactures and repairs its furniture items; wooden and steel, rather than buying them from the market. Since its establishment, the Central Workshop has taken care of all types of wood and steelwork for all departments of the university.

QAU Message from Dean of Biological Sciences
A wonderful moment to be studying biology is right now. Biology, which is the study of life itself, attempts to clarify underlying rules and principles of the natural world as well as reveal its core universal truths. Every year, we gain more complex knowledge of the principles underlying life.
Later, in 2006, the Department was elevated to the faculty level with its eight major Departments, including Zoology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Botany, Bioinformatics, Environmental Sciences, and Pharmacy, as a result of growing trends and a significant influx of students in the field of biology. Additionally, the Departments of Forensic Science and Food Science & Technology will soon be established by the faculty.
It is significant to note that with 0.2 million specimens, our herbarium is the biggest in Pakistan. At the Faculty of Biological Sciences, we work hard to provide the best learning environment and educational opportunities for our students and colleagues so they can achieve their objectives.
Chinese Ambassador Scholarship at Quaid e Azam University
At Quaid e Azam University, the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Program was launched for the first time. After completing their education, these financially and socially disadvantaged individuals will be able to demonstrate their ability in their particular academic fields and contribute significantly to the socioeconomic development of the nation.
Sun Weidong, the Chinese ambassador, launched the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship programme for Quaid e Azam University’s School of Politics and International Relations (SPIR) undergraduate students. Dr Javed Ashraf, the vice-chancellor of the university, and Sun Weidong, the ambassador of China to Pakistan, signed the agreement for the scholarship programme.
He also brought up the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which has elevated their mutually beneficial relationship to new heights and demonstrated their genuine friendship. Through CPEC, this friendship entered a new stage of growth, and around 17 new, significant development projects are being carried out nationwide.
These initiatives will bring about fresh changes in socioeconomic growth and realize the new aspirations of young, educated people. The Vice-Chancellor of QAU, Dr Ashraf, thanked the Chinese Ambassador for offering the scholarship programme for the students and picked QAU to launch this special initiative that can assist worthy students and will value their work and dedication to academic achievement.
